Toms

I would like to believe that most everyone has heard of "Toms" shoes...but in the off chance you haven't you need to tune in...

Toms is an amazing company whose motto is "one for one" meaning, every pair of shoes you purchase Toms will give a pair to a child in need, one for one.

It originally started small but it grew very rapidly. And yes they are not some high end, last forever shoe, but that's not the idea. But I will say now that they have multiplied so much, they have about any style and color of shoe you can imagine, even boots!

They have a website that gives you more detail, and you can find them right here at UNCW in the eco store and around town, like Sweetwater Surf shop.

Well in lu of my discussion of Toms, I am letting everyone who doesn't know already what April 8th is.

April 8th is the day when Toms is asking all of the fortunate people in the world, to go a day, or even a minute without shoes. Walk around and see how it feels to be barefoot. It will help spread the awareness of Toms and the impact one pair of shoes can make for a child who is less fortunate.

In Wilmington they are doing a barefoot walk, on April 8th at 6 till 7pm around the Wrightsville Beach loop. Everyone needs to do, it would be a great representation of our community and how we want to help others.

They will meet in the park next to the basketball courts and begin the walk shoe less.

Ours is only for an hour, it's our choice to do it, and we know that we get to put shoes back on.... Not everyone can say that.

So take sometime out and look down at your feet, and be thankful!

  1. KIM!!!!!!! I am so glad you wrote about this. I work at Sweetwater and on April 8th we are also doing an event. From 2:00 to 7:00 anyone who comes in and shops barefoot is going to be given a free pedicure in-store. Bangz Spa and Salon is going to have two employees set up giving pedicures. So everyone can go to Sweetwater and walk around and shop and then go do the walk around the Loop. Also all of our Toms are 20% off right now. And look out for Toms wedges coming in early May!

  2. I think Toms shoes are a great idea. I am buying my niece a pair for an Easter present! Like many people, sometimes we forget that having shoes is a privelage to some people while we take things like that for granted. I know that I have over 60 pairs of shoes and many I have only worn once and even a couple pairs that I have never worn before. I think the walk around the loop is a great idea. Also, the Sweetwater in-store pedicures is a great idea too! Thanks for letting us know about that Lydia!

  4. I love that you wrote about TOMS! I have always wanted a pair and am amazed at how fashionable they have become. They truly are made for a good reason which is different from companies and products who start out good and change to benefit themselves. Though I will not be able to participate in the event, I am so happy to see that you are encouraging people to make a difference. I hope that the event goes well. Good luck!

  5. Interesting i havent heard of Toms but that sounds like a wonderful program. Something that we also take for granted is shoes. Of course we overlook this and dont realize the benifit of shoes. I know I have different types of shoes for all kinds of work and play that I do in my life. I couldnt imagine not being able to pick out a pair of my shoes. Glad to know your supporting a great cause and might have to go out on the 8th to the loop.
